Today we are diving into why life expectancy rates have decreased for the first time in two decades and chronic illness is a major contributor!  We must find the good in this bad situation that we are in. The United States is ranked the worst performing health care system in the world yet we spend the most. We spend more then $3 trillion on health care every year! Reseach has also shown that half of all Americans are living with chronic illness. Making lifestyle changes will directly effect chronic illness and life expectancy. We believe it is an educational problem where American’s just don’t know what to do because there is an overload of information out there and so we don’t do anything.

Take a look at the article highlights:

“The cost of health care in the U.S. also increased over the past year, now accounting for an astounding 17 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP). But even though the U.S. spends more than $3 trillion on health care each year, it is the worst performing system ranked by multiple aspects of care.”

“Recent research also demonstrates half of Americans are living with chronic illness.  I don’t know about you, but I find this statistic absolutely astounding. Half the people in the U.S have some type of chronic illness.”

According to study authors Elizabeth Reisinger Walker, Ph.D., an assistant research professor, and Dr. Benjamin Druss, professor at Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University:

“The health of individuals in the [USA] is increasingly being defined by complexity and multi-morbidity, the co-occurrence of two or more chronic medical conditions.”

Knowledge is power and an educated American will make the right choices for their health!  Keep on learning and have an empowered day!
