Hey parents, have you heard about the major benefits of infant massage? If not, hold on; because today we will be sharing all of the information we have been learning from our licensed massage therapist, Tiffany Tucker about simple ways to soothe your little one through the healing power of Infant Massage!

With so many new mamas and dads coming in to our office everyday, we figured now would be a great opportunity to discuss the powerful benefits that infant massage can have on both your baby and you, as the caregiver….

SO, WHAT DOES INFANT MASSAGE ACTUALLY DO?

Infant massage is great for stimulating various systems in your baby’s body, like their:

  • Circulatory system
  • Digestive system
  • Nervous system
  • Immune system
  • Respiratory System

And in addition to supporting and stimulating these systems, infant massage also triggers the release of oxytocin, prolactin (which promotes milk production in moms) and finally, endorphins (which help keep everyone happy!).

If you are interested in learning more about Infant Massage Therapy, please sign up for our class on July 22 from 6:30-7:30 at Clear Connections Chiropractic.  Call our office today @ 616.608.3606 or Click the link below.

MY BABY IS HAVING A HARD TIME SLEEPING. WILL MASSAGE HELP?

Absolutely! Massage therapy for infants has been shown to decrease the amount of stress a baby feels from and in their environment. It’s hard to imagine that someone so small can be stressed, but nonetheless, babies often are. And this stress is a major contributing factor in a baby’s poor sleeping habits. Additionally, massage is able to help babies cope with sensory stimulation better. By reacting differently to sensory stimulation, babies have a more natural reaction to relax and be calm. Together these things combine with the physical effects of massage to help regulate an infant’s sleep patterns.

WHAT WILL MASSAGE DO FOR MY BABY’S MUSCLES?

A lot of parents worry that their infants muscle tone is not developed enough to handle a massage. However, massage actually has the opposite effect on your baby’s muscles. When you do infant massage on your little one, you reduce muscle tension and stiffness. And by doing this, you help to normalize your baby’s muscle tone before any serious problems arise.

WILL INFANT MASSAGE AFFECT HOW MY CHILD BONDS WITH ME?

Totally! Infant massage has been shown to be a powerful influence in bettering the relationship between caregiver and baby. In fact, did you know that when touch is combined with vocalization, it helps reduce levels of pain by at least 80%? That means, if you baby is crying from pain, using massage therapy can be an effective means of soothing. Touch also helps strengthen the bond between child and caregiver for other reasons. As you practice massage therapy on your infant, you will notice that they become accustomed to your touch, often expecting it as a way to calm down. As a parent, there is a unique touch that only can provide for your child. We aim to help you learn simple and effective ways to use touch in order to create a solid bond with your child.

AS A PARENT, WHAT WILL I LEARN FROM THE CLASS?

Keep in mind that this is intended to be a hands on course for one or more caregivers. In the class you will learn how to recognize and respond to your baby’s cues prior to and during massage.
