“The World Health Organization recommended that infants be breastfed for the first 6 months of life, with continued breastfeeding along with compatible foods for up to 2 years or more.
The American Academy of Pediatrics agreed that increased duration of breastfeeding provides significant health and developmental benefits for the child and the mother. The benefits for children include decreased number of ear infections, gastroenteritis, lower risk of obesity, and lower risk of asthma.
The current study involved a four-week-old female infant who was unable to effectively latch onto her mother’s left breast when held in the traditional cradle position or any other position.
Breastfeeding was attempted right after her adjustment. The patient’s mother reported that she was able to latch perfectly and latched without interruption for 30 minutes.”
