If you have ever been in our office we live by the quote, “It’s not the years in your life, but the life in your years.” We are featuring this story today because the latest research is showing that as people are living longer, they are also suffering from more ill health and disability in their old age.

The cause of 70% of deaths is non-infectious diseases that often have lifestyle origins, such as heart disease, stroke, and diabetes, but also include dementia.

People are spending more years with chronic illness and disability, caused by drug use – particularly of opioids and cocaine – loss of sight and hearing and osteoarthritis, according to the series of papers published by the Lancet medical journal.

Prof John Newton of Public Health England, who is involved in the study as chair of the European Burden of Disease Network, said: “The global picture is similar to that in England – people are living longer, but spending more time living with illness and disability. While we’ve made great strides to reduce deaths and illness from infections like HIV, malaria, and measles, it’s the chronic, non-communicable conditions like diabetes, drug use disorders and hearing and sight loss that create the bigger burden of illness. The treatment and resource implications for health systems are huge.”

This reminds me of so many individuals that were heading down a path of death and disease. They were able the change their future by acting in the present by upgrading their lifestyle. With a healthy and optimal nervous system as the starting point, you can turn your health around too. Check out this study where chiropractors would serve as primary care physicians in its network. The results are not only verifiable they remain unrefuted to this day.

“Decreases of 60.2% in-hospital admissions,
59% fewer hospital days,
62% less outpatient surgeries and procedures, and
85% less pharmaceutical cost when compared with conventional medicine IPA performance for the same health maintenance organization product in the same geography and time frame”
